| When the time
came to relocate their existing campus, the Board of Trustees of
the Oak Mountain Academy sought out professionals with
similar experience in the organization and design of school campuses.
Our previous work at The Lovett School, Pace Academy, and the Board
of Regents gave them the assurance they needed. Of concern
initially was the establishment of a design identity which would allow
each of the future buildings a measure of individuality but within
a common fabric. The obvious challenge was to create an intimacy
and scale that fit the context of the location and use of
the buildings. This became less of an effort for a small chapel
as opposed to a 1200-seat gymnasium. Our previous experience with the
design of other schools allowed us to effectively reduce the
apparent size of large buildings and enhance the approach to the
smaller ones. We now count Oak Mountain Academy among our
successes. |
